'HEWITT AND FARNHAM, MANY SIMILARITIES'

Australia's very own 'Voice' Jonny Farnham is now days the brunt of many jokes due to his insistence to tell everyone that he is retiring but then comes back out of retirement, time and time again.
"Hey buddy, you've had more comebacks than Jonny Farnham". This seems to be a regular office joke, a regular pub joke, an everyday joke no matter where you are in the Land of Oz but hey, all that we are doing is following the Jonny Farnham script.
JF 'officially retired in 2002, he then announced a tour again in 2006, then retired again, announced another tour in 2009, then retired again. One fan was so pissed off with Jonny that he lodged a written complaint with the ACCC ( Australian Competition and Consumer Commission ) who did not take action against Mr Farnham for 'misleading' the public. Why did this particular gentleman complain ?
By all reports he felt as though JF had duped him into buying a ticket to his supposed farewell tour which turned out to be just another tour really. Funny stuff.
So to Australia's other 'egomaniac' Lleyton Hewitt, here's another Aussie who perhaps wishes that he didn't in fact announce those magical words "I am retiring" back in 2016 because here we go again folks, the Lleyton Hewitt Show is about to hit town, ONCE AGAIN.
In 2015 Hewitt announced that he would retire after the 2016 Australian Open where he lost in the second round to David Ferrer. I remember watching the post match scenes, I thought it was the last time we would see Lleyton play, I wasn't too upset.
Fast forward to March of the same year; Lleyton announces that he will not only Captain the Davis Cup Tie against the USA at Kooyong, he will ALSO PLAY DOUBLES. Hang on Lleyton, didn't you retire buddy ?
Fast forward even further to Wimbledon of the same year, Lleyton enters the Doubles with Jordan Thompson ( no relation ), loses in the second round. Retired now ??
Ok, I thought that was the last we would see of Lleyton Hewitt, at least as far as playing was concerned, but wait, 'Ley Ley' is at it again, yes folks he has announced ONCE AGAIN that he is coming out of retirement to play tennis.
I wonder if he has some sort of personal competition going with Jonny Farnham as to who can make the most comebacks ?
So this is the latest, Lleyton will play in the Mens Doubles at the Australian Open in January with Sam Groth who has already announced his retirement ( oh dear there's that word again ) and according to Lleyton,  "We're not just going out there making up the numbers ".
Good luck with that statement.
So what is it with announcing retirements to the World and then changing your mind ? Well I suppose it all comes down to that word 'CREDIBILITY'. The public begin to doubt what you are saying is in fact fair dinkum and you may just suffer the same 'fate' as JF and be referred to as 'Doing a Jonny' if you change your mind once or twice ( mates never forget what you tell 'em ).
However it is entirely the choice of the individual. Personally I like the less fancy approach to retiring, the one where at the end of a season a player or an 'artist' simply says "That will do me folks". ( Not the 'Farewell Tour' that drags on for a year or so ).
You know, the simple way, the not so dramatic way, the non egotistical way of doing things.
Remember the Sport, the Industry etc will actually survive without you, it's not ALL ABOUT YOU.
Try telling that to an egomaniac...........
